About Lenny

The pioneering transgender rock musician, and writer has been performing and releasing music for over 30 years with his bands Jenifer Convertible, Tenterhooks, and Pop Combo. He’s worked with producers like James Murphy (pre-LCD Soundsystem) and Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.).

Early in his career, he opened for legends including U2, Iggy Pop, The Replacements and X, to name just a few. He’s also performed everywhere from the UK, Austin, L.A., the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (opening for The Neville Brothers and Stevie Ray Vaughn, no less) and more recently in his hometown of NYC and his birthplace New Orleans.

Lenny Zenith has released several albums, and singles including his first indie-rock solo album
What If The Sun in 2018, Blue Velvet Traces in 2019, and several singles since then. His finished memoir “Before I Was Me” is in final edits with his literary agent (galley/PDF upon request).

Cuban by heritage, Lenny is an engaging speaker and is well-versed in the issues affecting transgender, non-binary and gender nonconforming folx with an emphasis on the growing older transgender population, including; lack of housing and healthcare, discrimination, violence against gender non-conforming people (especially trans women of color), and the high rates of suicide ideation/attempts among our trans youth. He has spoken and/or performed at various universities, gender storytelling series and events:

Lenny continues to perform, and record — his latest two singles “Always Near Me” and “Hardly Wait” have received critical praise, and the videos have garnered thousands of views. Both releases have raised money for House Of Tulip in his hometown of New Orleans, a shelter for transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming folx as well as Translifeline.

He will be appearing in NYC in June (Cutting Room) and New Orleans in July (Tipitina’s).
