“Beards Of Grey” – The second single from the LP

"Beards Of Grey"

Almost any musician you ask will tell you that the friendships formed in bands often last a lifetime. Hours upon hours of working on original, often very personal songs, booking gigs, hauling equipment, performing live can be quite intense. Days, weeks even years spent in the studio to put out music you really care about brings people together like almost nothing else and often times bandmates become family.

As a transgender musician, I can say that EVERY one of my bandmates going as far back as the early 80s have been fierce allies, defending and protecting me and if necessary my privacy Several have watched the bathroom door for me at clubs that only offered urinals or troughs!

In a band’s early days, there are often high hopes and dreams. Rehearsals and gigs can be exhilarating and occasionally even transcendent. Audience connection and appreciation from the press is nice, but it’s the tight-knit bonds we form with each other that creates a profound lifelong connection.

I’ve had so many bands that include dozens of people all of whom still mean the world to me.

As we’ve gotten older, the passage of time is evident on our faces and bodies, but the music we shared and the memories we made will always remain.

I often wonder if my bandmates remember the same things that I do…

Ultimately, this song is a bittersweet farewell to the past, while also leaving room for a hopeful future.

James Pertusi who song, played bass and produced this track, and album is also featured in the video. He was in Jenifer Convertible (90s) and Tenterhooks (00s) with me and we’ve been playing/recording music for over 20 years now. We lost two members of Jenifer Convertible in the last few years (much too soon) — drummers Eddie Siino and Andy Moore to whom this track and album are dedicated. They and their families are always in our thoughts and hearts.

This is for all the ‘lifers’ out there who keep playing music together with joy in spite of the
Sometimes staggering challenges…especially as we get older.
